![]() "Uh -- the elevator's here," Megavolt pointed out. "I know," Tegwen replied simply. "Well -- uh -- aren't we -- uh -- going to get on?" He stuttered. She smiled sweetly in response, shrugging slightly. "Nooope." With a swift motion, she leaned in to punch the second floor button. Megavolt's jaw hung open, as if he couldn't comprehend Tegwen's stupidity. "Then why did you press those buttons?! What are we waiting for?!" The elevator door finally slid shut. "You ever gone surfing before?" Asked Tegwen. "What?!" Cried Megavolt, pointing to the plug on top of his head almost desperately. "Hel-lo, Ducky! Water and I don't mix!" Tegwen rolled her eyes, giggling slightly. "Elevator surfing, silly!" Tegwen forced the elevator door open to punctuate her remark, only to reveal a drop off where the elevator cabin should have been. "You ready?" She asked, challenging him with a firm stare. "Ready?" Megavolt replied shakily. "Ready for what?" Tegwen swiftly grabbed his hand. "This!" She cried, jumping down into the elevator shaft, pulling Megavolt along with her. They landed at the same time on the roof of the cabin, shaking it roughly. Tegwen drew in a sharp breath and listened carefully for a moment. No sound came from within the elevator beneath them. She breathed a long sigh of relief. The elevator chain started whirring again and the cabin jerked downward with Megavolt and Tegwen on top. They rode it down a few stories, until Tegwen grabbed onto a set of doors as the cabin slowed beneath their feed. She forced them open with Megavolt's help and as the elevator began sliding down some more, both fugitives leapt out of the elevator shaft and into a hallway. Cubicles surrounded them. Tegwen laid on her back for a moment, staring at the ceiling. She then glanced over at Megavolt, who looked surprisingly pale. "Oooh-hooo! That was exciting!" She reeled, sitting up suddenly. Megavolt glared at her silently. "We're on the third floor right now. If we go down one flight of stairs from here, we can hop down the back fire escape and get out of here unnoticed," Tegwen said quietly, standing up with Megavolt's assistance It was unnecessary, but a nice gesture. The two were surprised to see no guards or policemen anywhere around the outside of the building as they clamored down the fire escape. ![]() go back | return to table of contents |
