![]() CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR ![]() Oddly enough, however, the massive crowd that Tegwen had seen on the earlier broadcast was still there, helicopters still circling the building. "What's happening?!" Tegwen cried in despair. "Where are they?!" A nearby spectator glanced up from his portable TV. "Here, Miss, it's on the television." She quickly joined the stranger's side and watched what was on the tiny, snow-ridden black and white screen. How the hell? Tegwen gasped inwardly. Megavolt hadn't been captured or killed. On the contrary, the tables had turned in his favor while Tegwen had made her way to the downtown area. "Thank you!" Tegwen cried, giving the stranger a quick hug. Then she took off for the lobby of a neighboring building. As Tegwen stood in the elevator, fidgeting like crazy, she finally realized at least one thing favorable about the city. All of the buildings in the downtown area were less than four feet apart. That would make it easy to jump from one to another, not that she'd ever tried before. Taking a deep breath, she stepped from the open doors of the lift, ran through a hallway, and up into a cramped staircase marked "roof access." As much as she hated to admit it, St. Canard had a beautiful skyline in autumn. The weather was pleasant, the sky almost always blue and clear, creating a spectacular view for miles around. From atop that building, Tegwen could see into St. Canard's neighboring forest. She loved greenery and remembered that Duckburg had nothing like that so close to the city. Even more interesting was the fact that she knew ducks had made that forest, importing trees from outside the peninsula.
