![]() Presently she had spent an additional several hours in front of an archaic machine scanning through pages of microfiche that likely would never be touched again once she was through with viewing them. The librarian had left her with ten tins of film to review and the first nine revealed absolutely nothing. But tin ten was like winning the lottery, finding a needle in a haystack and scoring the championship-winning-goal all at once. It was the key to unlock a door to a veritable wealth of knowledge. First she spotted Tegwen's name beneath an old photo in the Duckburg Herald. Taken during an event at McDuck Manor, it showed her gazing adoringly at some older mallard who looked both clueless about her and completely out of place in such a setting. Gabriel couldn't miss how long her hair was back then. Nor could she miss the sweet innocence of a young girl who had yet to be corrupted by harsh reality. Looking at the picture for a few moments, Gabriel couldn't figure out what Tegwen found so captivating about the fellow she was standing beside. Young girls' crushes, though, were fascinating anomalies and were rarely ever logical. Gabriel knew that well in her own personal experience. Further down, she found Tegwen's name again in the Duckburg Herald. This time, acquitted of a homicide that had taken place at Duckburg High School. Perhaps High Command disagreed with the jury's assessment of Tegwen's innocence and saw her value as an assassin. But try as she might, Gabriel couldn't believe Tegwen was a murderer. Not even in self-defense! There has to be something more! Gabriel took note of other names cited in the article before she finished reading it. Tegwen was a track star. Of course she was. She baby-sat for the richest duck in the world. Gabriel's eyebrows shot toward the ceiling and she jotted that information down, too. Some random connection to Scrooge McDuck; now that had to be worth something. In one article, several classmates had referred to Tegwen as "kind of a loner." Somehow that did not come as a surprise to Gabriel and she thought it rather fit the profile of a murderer and assassin. ![]() go back | return to table of contents |
