![]() CHAPTER EIGHT ![]() Temporary servants lined the sidewalk, ready to assist all the guests. Somehow, though, Scrooge found his way out to greet Tegwen's family when they arrived. Tegwen was the first one he reached, giving her a quick hug. "My, you look so beautiful, m'dear," he said, holding Tegwen out at arm's length. The sequins on her dress caught the light from the mansion, spraying a rainbow of colored spots along the side of their white limousine. "You look so grown up . . ." Scrooge looked away for a moment. Turning back to her, he added, "Welcome, welcome. Please go join the party." "If you don't mind, I'd like to wait for my parents. I can't make much of an entrance by myself." Beitiris blushed, unbeknownst to a glowering Giffen. "Scrooge, you flatter," she whispered. "It's good to see you again." Scrooge stretched and gave her a kiss on the cheek. Recoiling quickly, Scrooge turned to Giffen. "I hope you're treating my Bee well, Giff." Giffen frowned and Tegwen could tell he was trying to control his temper. "Yes, actually," he replied coldly, "I'm treating my Bee very well." "Good, good," Scrooge muttered. "Well, please . . . Join the party." Tegwen and her parents followed Scrooge McDuck into his mansion. Affluent guests filled the normally empty foyer, chatting and laughing excitedly. It was a rare day when Scrooge McDuck held a party. ![]() go back | return to table of contents | continue
