![]() CHAPTER SIXTY EIGHT ![]() "Tegwen, slow down!" Megavolt gasped, desperately trying to pry his hand from her grasp. The task was made all the more difficult as his other arm was wrapped around a sizable collection of now-retired theater lights Ariella had introduced him to. "We can't!" She panted, glancing behind herself quickly, watching the theater shrinking into the distance. "But I can't keep up!" He protested. "Learn to!" Tegwen snapped. "We've gotta get out of here! You know, before it's too --" Her sentence was left incomplete, as the very concrete itself shook when Gizmoduck plummeted out of the sky in their path. With a haughty tone, he commanded, "Halt, vill-i-ans!" "Oh --" Megavolt whined. "Not you again!" "What do you want from us? What do you want from me?!" Tegwen glared at the duck in the metal suit. "I think it would be best if you came with me, Madam!" Gizmoduck insisted, holding his head high. Tegwen reached up before she could stop herself and slapped him as hard as she could across his bill. "How dare you! You barge in during a private conversation, accuse me ot stealing someone else's property, toss my name around as if you know who I am, chase me down and now have the gall to demand that I come with you! Who do you think you are?" Gizmoduck looked at Tegwen in awe, slowly bringing his metal gloved hand to where she'd slapped him. "But -- but you don't understand! I'm supposed to bring you home! To Duckburg!" Tegwen raised an eyebrow. "Oh, sure -- you want to bring me home, all right. I saw the way you stared at me when I entered the theater . Why don't you give your libido a rest and go take a cold shower or an icy undercarriage wash or whatever it is you do with yourself when you haven't a chance in the world with a girl, and get the hell out of my life!" In a flash, Tegwen grabbed Gizmoduck's left arm and yanked on it, pulling him off balance. His efforts to remain upright merely sent him into a clockwise spin. "Ooh, that was cool, Tegsie!" Megavolt beamed. As an afterthought, he raised a finger and sent an electrical shock coursing through Gizmoduck's suit. Flashes of discharge illuminated the street, as one by one the Gizmosuit's systems failed. Gizmoduck struggled to maintain control, but finally toppled when the last of his robotic controls shut down. By the time he was able to restore his system's settings and regain control of the situation, the pair was long gone. ![]() go back | return to table of contents |
