CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT

Megavolt and Tegwen neared the art district, walking side by side in silence and keeping a respectful distance from one another.

Tegwen hugged her jacket to her chest self consciously, trying to hide while donning the only dress she could find suitable enough to wear to an event like this. The sequined gown was one of few possessions she had taken with her from her old life, and she was thrilled to have a reason to wear it again. She hadn't minded that it was a little old, but she soon realized that she had grown a bit over the years. Now it was a little too tight and a lot too short for her taste, especially when walking through the unsavory neighborhood near Megavolt's hideout.

She exhaled when she was within sight of the Schubird. At least there would be no more drunks, bums, or street cons trying to make a pass at her. Or worse, she hoped there would be no more men like the one who tried to offer her money for her "companionship" that evening. The only person left to worry about was her escort.

"I really wish you'd worn something else tonight," she chided, regarding his standard yellow jumpsuit. "Anything else."

The pair had just entered the doors of the theater when Megavolt gasped. "Oh no! Tinhead is here!"

"Quit changing the subject."

"But it's Gizmoduck!"

"You wimp! Just give him the tickets and walk right on by! He can't do anything to you if you haven't done anything wrong."

Megavolt shuddered. "He's gonna run over my foot again! I just know it!"

Tegwen snorted, pushing him in front of herself. "Don't worry," she reassured him in a surprisingly bossy tone as they approached Gizmoduck.

"Hello, good -- " Gizmoduck said, resigning to the fact that everyone was treating him as an usher that night. He accepted Megavolt's tickets. Seeing Tegwen, his bill dropped.

"Ack --" Megavolt choked. "Come on," he hissed, ushering Tegwen into the theater quickly. "Did you see the way that creep was staring at you?!" He cried.

"I didn't bother to look, I'm sorry." Tegwen glanced around. "So where are our seats?"

Megavolt sighed, glancing at the ticket stubs. "Uh . . . C102 and C103, center."

Tegwen nodded. She took three steps toward the row, then stopped abruptly. "Oh no," she whispered. "No, no! I am not sitting here!"
