But I think we better be quiet. We're only three blocks from the Fourteen Karat Jewel Garden. And, no, not Milton." "Damn." Finally, the words "Fourteen Karat Jewel Garden" sunk in, snapping Tegwen rudely from the happy game they had been playing for the last half-hour. Suddenly, the streets of St. Canard looked very gloomy and shadowed -- much like that night long ago when she fled from the scene. "Why are we doing this?" She asked shakily. "Because Negaduck -- Negadork -- told us to," Megavolt answered simply. "Y-You mean to tell me that you obey his orders without any consideration to your own ideas?" "Why shouldn't I?" "Because . . . Well, because you have a brain --" Megavolt grinned. "-- Somewhere up there, anyway," Tegwen finished, pointing at his head shyly. He frowned slightly. "He's my boss. Of course I'd do what he says." Tegwen snorted. "Oooh, you big bad villain, who can't hold an actual job but takes orders from a boss anyway. What profit is there in doing that?" Megavolt glanced down at Tegwen for a moment. "So what are you saying, exactly?" Tegwen's bill hung open in shock. "Can't anyone think for himself, here?!" She cried, exasperated. "Just . . ." She glanced up from the sidewalk, seeing the Jewel Garden come into full view. "I can't do this." Tegwen shivered violently, rubbing her hands.
