Lookie! My very first blog attempt outside of Livejournal or Greatestjournal or any of those places. I can post what I want when I want how I want to offend whoever I want and. . . SO WHAT!
To anyone who dares to take a peek. . . This is the official Horse and Rabbit blog. It’s also probably the best way to keep track of the website or the brilliant (aka: CRAZY) masterminds behind it.
Posts will be categorized accordingly. This one, for example, is going under the “Horse” category because it’s a personal entry about Horse Bunny.
(That’d be yours, truly.)
I figure I’d take the time to introduce the website, the blog and myself.
You may see, in the upper right-hand corner of the blog a comment about car tires. We’ve had extremely bad luck with tires on our cars as of recent, and, as luck would have it, I have a story from Thursday!
Thursday morning, as we were driving on a westbound freeway to work, I had to veer slightly off the road as a car in the lane to the right decided to encroach on us. I hit four or five box dots, but the last one I hit before coming back into my lane made this loud POP! and all of a sudden there was just grinding and grinding and what had been a nice normal conversation became yelling so that Rabbit could hear me (and vice versa). I guess I was just in denial or something, because we had a flat repaired not even four months ago. So I pulled over onto the left shoulder/median (traffic would not permit me over to the right shoulder). Sure enough, when I poked my head out the car door to look at the front left tire, it was flat as flat could be.
Now with the hazard lights blinking, I got on my cell phone and dialed up AAA. This is where the “comedy of errors” begins.
AAA sends out their membership cards for two-year periods of time even though you have to renew them every year. Due to the nature of our mail service and the fact that we’ve moved recently, I haven’t received the membership renewal letters and when not in use, the AAA thing kinda slips your mind.
The person I spoke with, after setting up a tow-truck for us (we have no spare since the last time we lost a tire, the people who put the spare on the car didn’t give it BACK to us), was going to help me renew our membership.
Then, our pay-ahead phone service ran out of time and my cellphone died. Not knowing if the call was officially completed, we climbed out of the car (Rabbit had to, literally, because he was too close to traffic on the passengers side to be able to safely open his door) and decided which, of the three nearby callboxes, to attempt getting to.
Traffic was piling up on the Westbound side of the freeway and there was no way we’d be able to safely cross to get to the callbox on the right shoulder. Traffic was free-flowing on the Eastbound side, but at least there was the occasional break where we could run across. So we trudged through the median (just LUCKY I didn’t wear the stilettos I was going to wear!) and made the trek about a half mile back.
Callboxes are interesting things, really. If you’ve never used one. . . well, no, I don’t recommend it. But things worked out fairly well. A Caltrans worker spotted us and at least was able to offer us a ride in his tow truck BACK to our car.
From our car, we waited another twenty minutes for our tow-truck to arrive and then ANOTHER half hour for him to hook it up and get our car on the flatbed.
Meanwhile, I’ve been needing to use the bathroom since five in the morning. By then it was 7:45. We didn’t get to the tire shop until after 8, and I didn’t get to work until 8:30. Mind you, I’m supposed to be in by 6:30 and was unable to call (y’know, since our PHONE died!) to let my boss know I was running a wee bit late. Ultimately, I didn’t get to go to the bathroom until after 9. EEK!
The two rays of sunshine?
1. Since we got towed, we didn’t have to waste another 12 miles of gas. Out in CA, that probably saved us a couple bucks! I’m not exaggerating.
2. The tires, since we got the warranty, were completely repairable and covered. We went to pick up our car (the tire place is literally right across the street from where Rabbit and I both work) and they just handed us the keys. “Here you go, kids, have a nice day!”
I figured that would be a decent example of how Murphy (of “Murphy’s Law” fame) works in Rabbit’s and my lives.
My next post, I think, will be a little introduction of us (Rabbit, and me- Horse) and a little about the site.
So maybe one of these days I’ll be able to get Rabbit, himself to post here. I assume I will- he’s just busy working to get this site up and running (as I should be doing)!
Until next time!
Keep on the look-out for site update posts at this blog!

PS - Horse has discovered the joys (and PAINS) of wireworking. Be it known that 26 ga wire is practically USELESS. Thank you.
Sorry for the song quote.
Changes from yesterday:
Faire Garb Gallery: 30 % complete.
Things Cut Short chapter eight: 75% typed. (I have GOT to stop being so bloody long-winded in my writing!!)
I’m currently writing chapter nine during my breaks at work. ::cries::
Wire wrapping is still incredibly difficult for Horse. She doesn’t like it very much.
Love and Sleepies,
Horse
Rabbit and I kinda got a little bit of everything done today.
Things Cut Short chapter eight is now 90% typed. I was also able to work a little bit on chapter nine today. Go me.
We have a framework for the main part of the website, which I’m REALLY excited about! We’re going big-time now!
Currently, Rabbit is working on the remainder of the faire garb gallery. We forgot—HE had faire garb, too!
As for me. . . I have some chores to do so my work on the site this evening has come to an end. ::pout::
Until later!
Love and Icky Eyeglasses,
Horse
PS- Hey, Rabbit, if you see this. . . POST! :-p
Chapter eight of Things Cut Short is finally finished being typed up, 30 pages in all its greusome glory
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
::ahem:: That is, now I can go back to some HTML’ing while I’m not working on chapter nine (we’ll say I’m about ten pages into that chapter. . .) and I am projecting Things Cut Short will run a total of eleven parts. It’ll be interesting to have final page count when all is done.
Yes, this was supposed to be things cut SHORT, not things cut ridiculously LONG. ::shakes head in disdain at self::
We’ve made a ton of progress on the general look of the site, though, and that’s a massive hurdle we’ve just cleared. Go us!
Stay tuned. . . More from us in the near future.
Love and triumph-over-finishing-a-BIG-project-that’s-taken-WAY-too-long-already,
Horse
Well, yesterday, nothing got done on the website for either Rabbit or me. But that’s okay.
We spent all day (and I mean, ALL day) up at my parents’ place. . .
Went to have lunch at an Indian restaurant (omgYUMMY!), went shopping at Costco (you wouldn’t think this was exciting but you’d have to understand that we never get to go and I got my special Horsepills to last me almost half a year of HAPPY, plus this REALLY cute velour running outfit), went out ::again:: to get an excercise bike for me (so that I can set a schoolbook up on the little book holder and study for school while still getting some physical activity) for my birthday. Funny. . . not so long ago I’d have been disappointed (yeah, not to mention HURT!) at the concept of getting an excercise bike for my birthday. NOW I’m thrilled that my parents agreed to buy it!
So we got back fairly late, and Rabbit took a little while to construct the bike while I looked through my father’s photo gallery. With his permission, I’m going to be using some of his photographs on calendars and such things at the H & R cafepress store. His photographs are spectacular!
Not too much later, we finally (after about a ::year:: of waiting for this) got to pull out my father’s new sixteen inch telescope.
Long story short. . . (And this will probably mean little to nothing for you guys, but it means the WORLD to me)
We got to look at Jupiter (and saw four of its moons as well as some of its stripes!), five or six Messier (pronounced “Messy-ay” . . . ‘tis French) objects, Vega (imagine the most beautiful, spectacular vivid blue diamond you could ever see. . . it still wouldn’t hold a candle to Vega), the Ring Nebula (basically looked like an amoeba, to me), a binary star (it’s the middle star in the handle of the big dipper, and it’s actually two very very close kinda twin stars) and the moon.
While looking at Jupiter, I got the most AMAZING treat: right in my little field of vision through the eyepiece, a shooting star streaked right between Jupiter and one of its moons!! My father and Rabbit had just walked outside and found me screaming, “OMG! OMG! Guess what I just saw
”
M13 (the M stands for the aforementioned Messier) was my very first globular cluster. Again. . . none of this means anything unless you’ve SEEN one.

(Photo from sbig.com, taken by Paul Walsh. go to sbig. look at BEAUTIFUL astrophotography)
Anyway, now imagine something like that image only crystal clear little pinpoint dots. (I think the poor quality is the fact that the image is a gif.)
It took my breath away. There was also a sense of depth looking at that object that you really don’t get in the above image. I can’t explain it.
I want my own telescope.
And just like my daddy, I want my own M13. M22 would be okay, too, I guess.
I want my eyes to see the universe in color, not in black and white (and occasional blues and reds like when looking at Vega or Mars). Stupid lousy eyes. :-p
We went in, by then, after 10:00 and finally had dessert while watching a recording of Growing Up Tiger (awwwwwwwwwwwww! I want my own tiger cubs). We didn’t leave until around 11:30 and it’s at least an hour to get back to our place from my parents’.
SO TIRED.
But at least we have about a half day to recover!
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
Love and Globular Clusters (sounds like a cereal! Globular Clusters, now part of a balanced breakfast!),
Horse
Maybe I shouldn’t say everyone… not many people know that we’re here yet. But so much the better…!
I mean, only because the site isn’t up and running yet. So there’s not much to see here. Yet.
But I just wanted to add a quick update regarding the Faire section:
• The Faire Gallery is finally finished. Well, up to date. We plan on going to more faires, of course!
• The Garb Gallery is about halfway done. Did we REALLY have that many outfits? Eep!
• Faire Animals is finished… again, up to date. All our adoring fans and visitors will have to wait and see what that’s about.
• The text-based sections are slowly coming together, since there’s a lot of history, and research to be done.
• And our last section… probably my favorite… needs to be started. It’s a Project Diary (or a section for many of these)... but seeing as how we haven’t exactly started making anything, it has to wait. Until we get enough together for an update. Shouldn’t be TOO hard…
This Faire section has been placed in my care since the site project started, and I must say it’s coming along nicely. A lot more attractive, easy to navigate, and just more fun that other simlar sections we’ve had. I hope you guys will have fun visiting it… nearly as much as I’ve had putting it together.
Then there’s the OTHER hundred non-Faire galleries I have to get started. But we’ll ignore that fact, seeing has how I wanted this to be one of those “oh, my goodness, they’re getting something accomplished” posts!
So there.
Say it.
Your line is “Oh, my goodnes, they’re getting something accomplished!”
That wasn’t so hard, was it?
-Rabbit
Sorry about the relative lack of updates from this weekend… we didn’t get to do much, other than add one new location to our trip gallery.
Y’see, Southern California was hit by a little heat-wave, so we decided it was best to leave our inland apartment behind and head toward the coast. While there, we stopped by the Maritime Museum of San Diego. It was a nice, relatively cheap (outside of having to run out to feed the parking meter several times), and fun way to spend the weekend. Educational too.
You all will get a chance to see photos from that trip when the site comes online. Or, if you’re in the San Diego area, why not head down to see an important piece of American naval history, yourself?
Hmm, I wonder what Horse would think if I told her that we finally have a way to get that Llama Cam feature online. And that, in fact, I’ve included it on the first of several movies that feature DCA’s opening day.
Heck, I know there were at least a FEW people out there who wanted to see it. Are any of you still interested in seeing this? Hmm?!
(Yes, this demands a reply!
)

Horse: f. A misguided soul hell-bent on righting all the wrongs in the world. Her only problem, of course, is that no one listens or takes her seriously. The self-proclaimed "realist," Horse has a very cynical but often strangely humorous view of the "dark cruel world" around her.
Rabbit: m. The only one who can ever seem to "wrangle Horse in," Rabbit has his work cut out for him and seems to be perpetually exhausted. Nonetheless, he's an optimist. . . With horribly unfortunate luck and timing.
